Learners will gain confidence in managing tracheostomy tubes, recognising complications, and carrying out routine and emergency interventions in line with best practice and clinical guidance.

What will you learn?
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
✔ Understand tracheostomy anatomy and the reasons for insertion
✔ Carry out routine tracheostomy care including suctioning and stoma care
✔ Perform safe tracheostomy tube changes (where applicable)
✔ Recognise signs of complications and respond appropriately
✔ Follow emergency procedures including blockage management and accidental decannulation
✔ Maintain infection prevention and control at all times
✔ Accurately record and escalate concerns in line with policies and procedures

Duration: Half day (3–4 hours)
Delivery: Face-to-face or blended learning (theory + practical)
Assessment: Practical demonstration & short knowledge check
